What are the Corona measures in Botswana, Zambia and South Africa. What requirements should I meet to be admitted where can I be tested for Covid and where can I find more information. Corona measures in Botswana

All arriving travellers must meet the following conditions:

  • Hand over a maximum of 72 hours (from departure time) old negative PCR Covid-19 test.
  • Travellers are tested for Covid-19 upon entry via air and in some cases by entry via land
  • Travellers with symptoms are placed in isolation or quarantine.
  • The traveller must keep in touch with the local authorities for the duration of 14 days.
  • Travellers who do not (want to) comply with this are not admitted.
  • Travellers must meet the requirements of the country of return at their own expense upon departure from Botswana.
  • Until at least September 30, travel between 10 pm and 4 am is not allowed (curfew).
  • You need to wear a face mask in public, even if you are outside and walking alone.

Inter zonal travel

To manage the spread of the virus, Botswana is divided into several zones, and you need a permit to travel from zone to zone. This permit should be requested by the lodge/camp/hotel you have a booking with.

PCR testing

If you need a PCR test to travel from Botswana to Zambia or South Africa, you can go to the places listed below.

  • Weigh bridge Kazangula (cheapest option 500p, pay at the Kazangula border and have your test done at the weighbridge clinic

Maun & Francistown

Corona measures in Zambia

All arriving travelers must meet the following conditions:

  • At the border you must hand over a negative PCR test that is not older than 72 hours.
  • They check your temperature upon arrival. If it is higher than 38 degrees or you arrive from a high risk country (amongst others, UK, Germany, South Africa and India) or you show other symptoms, you will be tested for Covid-19 and quarantined.
  • The traveller must monitor himself and if symptoms occur, contact the local authorities for the duration of at least the first 14 days.
  • In Zambia you have to wear a mouth mask in public.

If you need a PCR test to travel from Zambia to Botswana or Zimbabwe, you can go to the places listed below. Please note that in Zambia the test results need to be certified (not always in the same place, but usually this is taken care of by the testing facility).

Lusaka:

  • University Teaching Hospital
  • Center for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ)
  • Medlands Hospital
  • Tropical Disease Research Center
  • Unza Vet Labaratory
  • Victoria Hospital
  • All Level-1 hospitals in Lusaka such as Chilenje, Matero, Chipata, Kanyama, and Chawama First Level Hospitals.

It takes a minimum of 24 – 72 hours to get the results. The results must then be certified at the Adult Infectious Diseases Center (AIDC) at the University Teaching Hospital or the District Health officer in Chainamam, both in Lusaka.

Livingstone

  • General Hospitals in the district such as Livingstone General Hospital
  • Medcare clinic (arranges the certification itself)

For certification, you need to go to Livingstone’s District Health office.

Corona measures in South Africa

Not only are the international airports open for travellers, as of 15 February 2021 the 20 major land border posts are open again, including the Groblersbridge border post which closed down till 25 February due to flooding damages.

All arriving travelers must meet the following conditions:

  • Upon arrival in the country, you must provide a negative Covid test no more than 72 hours before departure.
  • You are screened on arrival for symptoms similar to Covid and if you have Covid you will be quarantined at a government designated location at your own expense.
  • You need to download the Covid alert app.
  • There is a curfew from 11 pm to 4 am during which no travel is allowed and the sale of alcohol is banned. Pick up from the airport is still possible.
  • In South Africa you must wear a mouth mask in public.
