Matobo NP Zimbabwe

Matobo National Park, located in the southwest of Zimbabwe, is known for its extraordinary rock formations, also known as koppies. These granite hills and protruding rocks are often spectacular and have unique shapes. They are also of great cultural and spiritual importance to the local people and contain ancient petroglyphs and shelters.
Matobo is steeped in history and culture. Once home to the San people, the park is home to thousands of petroglyphs dating back thousands of years. It is also the final resting place of Cecil John Rhodes, a British colonial figure, whose grave is located on the hilltop of “World’s View”.

Wildlife

Although Matobo National Park is not as well known for its wildlife as the other parks in Zimbabwe, it is still home to a variety of animals, including white and black rhinos, leopards, klipspringers, hyenas, and numerous bird species. Game drives and walking safaris are offered to explore the animals and landscapes.

Accessibility

Matobo is easily accessible from Bulawayo. The access road is reasonable to good. Matobo is an ideal destination for hiking enthusiasts. There are numerous hiking trails that offer visitors the opportunity to explore the striking rock formations, caves and beautiful views. Popular walks include “Mother and Child kop” and “Inanke Cave”.

Matobo National Park has several lodges, campsites and accommodations in the area, ranging from luxury lodges to budget-friendly camping options. This makes it accessible to travelers with different budgets

Parkfees

You pay the entrance fee for Matobo at the entrance to the park or in advance when booking. The cost for international customers with their own transportation is $15 per person and $6 per car per day.
