North Luangwa
National Park
North Luangwa National Park Zambia
The North Luanga National park in Zambia is the only park in Zambia where you can encounter the big five. It is located north of South Luangwa in eastern Zambia. The park is crossed by a through road that can also be used as a transitroad. The number of visitors is extremely low, mainly because of its location. The chance that you will encounter another visitor is therefore very small. Like South Luangwa, the park is bounded on the east by the Luangwa River and on the west by the escarpment.

Wildlife
North Luangwa is the only park in Zambia where you can encounter the Big Five. Fortunately, the Black rhino population is very well protected here. Furthermore, huge herds of buffalo can be found here, as well as, of course, buffalo-hunting lions, hyena, leopard, zebra, puku, eland, hartebeest, and impala. This park is the home of more than 500 species of birds, one even more colorful than the other.
Accessibility
North Luangwa is not easy to reach. From the west, from the T2 (Great North road), take the dirt road exit to the park. From the east it requires a little more planning and off roading (about 150km from South Luangwa NP) and crossing the Luangwa River by hand pulled pontoon.
Accommodations
There are a few lodges in the park, of which only 1 is really good. Outside the park on the west and east side are 2 newly build campsites.
Parkfees
You pay the park entrance fee at the entrance of the park in the west or in the east. Costs for the pontoon have been included, but a tip is desirable after the hard work of the pontoon attendant. The cost for international customers with private transportation is $25 per day per person and $15 per car per day.
